English- Language Features

Imagery:
What is Imagery?: Imagery is giving the reader an image of what you are writing.
What is it's effect/ why is it used?: The purpose of imagery is to take advantage of all of a reader's senses and build them into something vivid and real in the reader's imagination.
Three Examples:
  • The lake was left shivering by the touch of morning wind.
  • The pot was as red as a tongue after a cherry-flavored ring pop.
  • He felt like the flowers were waving hello.

Language Feature: Anaphora- English

Anaphora:

What is it? Anaphora is a use of a word that you have written earlier on in the 'text'

Why is it used/ what is the effect? Anaphora is the repetition of a certain word or phrase at the beginning of successive lines of writing or speech. ... As a rhetorical device or a technique that an author uses to persuade, anaphora is used for the purpose of generating a particular effect in your audience.

Find two examples online:
Every day, every night, in every way, I am getting better and better
Everything looked dark and bleak, everything looked gloomy, and everything was under a blanket of mist.”
