English- Language Features

Imagery:
What is Imagery?: Imagery is giving the reader an image of what you are writing.
What is it's effect/ why is it used?: The purpose of imagery is to take advantage of all of a reader's senses and build them into something vivid and real in the reader's imagination.
Three Examples:
  • The lake was left shivering by the touch of morning wind.
  • The pot was as red as a tongue after a cherry-flavored ring pop.
  • He felt like the flowers were waving hello.

  1. Kia ora Selena,
I am Miss Morgan and I work as a teacher across the Uru Manuka Cluster. I think that imagery is a great language feature when it is used correctly to add effect to a story. I love reading books where I can picture the scene in my mind and am reminded of the senses I would feel in that moment. Your first example was the most effective for me. It would be great to add in some examples from texts you have read in class or at home to help show this in a 'real world' setting.
Do you have a favourite quote that shows imagery?
    - Miss Morgan
