14/11/18- Social Studies Hurricane Katrina

A Tropical storm also known as a Typhoon or Hurricane occurs in warm oceans with winds that reach 270/km. They are normally found on the North and south side of the equator. Winds can reach up to 270/km which can cause buildings to be destroyed and jobs to be lost, many people died in the Hurricane and people should take precautions when one is near. Tropical storms can bring flooding and lots of rain, they are very dangerous and people should get as far away as possible from them.

English Creative Writing

Plan
  • The animals would have spent so long in the zoo they wouldn’t have known how to survive in the wild
  • If some animals get endangered there will be animals in the zoo to breed
  • Going to the zoo is a good experience because you get to see animals you normally wouldn’t see
  • The animals get better treatment at zoos

All Zoos should be shut down and release all animals back into the wild

I don’t think Zoos should shut down and I definitely don’t think they should release the animals back into the wild. Not only is it fun to go to the zoo but it’s a better environment for the animals.

When you go to the zoo you get to experience animals you normally wouldn’t see, like Rhinos, Giraffes, Monkeys and many more, If you released them it would be much harder to see them again. Depending on how long the animals have been in the zoo they wouldn’t even know how to survive out in the wild. It’s also better for the animals  because they get better treatment, they don’t have to run and hide from predators, and they get fed and don’t have to find food themselves and it’s overall better for their health.

If some wild animals end up close to extinction you can just breed the animals that are at the zoo. Do you want zoos to be shut down?

Should dangerous sports be banned?
Personally I think dangerous sports shouldn’t be banned because the people going to do these sports should know that there is a risk of something bad happening and they should be prepared for it incase it does happen. It’s also taking away the joy for other people who want to have the experience of playing that sport.

If you really think about it all sports are dangerous in some way for example, rugby, in rugby someone could get a concussion or in netball someone could get hit on the head. This shows that every sport is dangerous in some sort of way so the question i’m trying to argue with is should dangerous sports be banned? Well What sports are dangerous are they talking skydiving? Rugby? If they took the dangerous sports away I would think they would be taking all sports away because in my eyes all sports are dangerous, Would they just take away the sports that are obviously dangerous and not even think about taking away the dangerous sports that everyone loves to watch?.

Digital Technology

My finial app blog

Introduction
Over the past term we have been planning and developing a game of our choice. We got put into groups and had to work with them to create a game that we all liked. We used code.org to develop our game and used coggle to plan our game. We have changed a few things in our game over the past term. And I think our game would be a good one.

D.L.O
You can find our game by clicking here
Click the settings on our game and where it says audio click on then click back and it will play an audio we put in
Here are some pictures

Reflection
While we've been working on our game I've learnt how to code and design a game, Making a game was hard because we wanted to add some pictures but we couldn't because either it didn't look right or we didn't know how to crop the backgrounds out (We know how to crop now).We decided to make a horror game even though Hillary didn't agree, we  added things she wanted even though it was a horror game. Selepa and I worked well together when Hillary was away.

Even though we didn't get our game finished I think it could've been a really good game if we actually finished it, we had an idea that it could be a choice game and that you could "choose your own path" kinda thing While we we're developing our game we had a few ideas that we should add our names in even though some of us didn't agree we ended up adding them in anyway.

I've really enjoyed using code.org the coding is a bit hard but when you understand how to use it, it get's easier, the planning was the easiest and making the game was hard because of all the coding we don't fully understand. Other than that I really enjoyed making this game with the group i'm in. I liked the group I was in but if I was with another group I might not be as happy.

My Curiosity Question

I wonder what the Bermuda Triangle is and why so many things go missing there. It's believed that 4 planes and 20 ships go missing around the Bermuda Triangle each year. The Bermuda triangle is also called the Devil's Triangle. The Bermuda triangle is a triangle area covering over half a million square miles of ocean, found between Bermuda, Florida and Puerto Rico. It got its name in 1964 after writer Vincent H. Gaddis became concerned about the series of aviation and maritime mysteries that had taken place in the area.

Social Studies What I've learn't this year

What I've learn't in Social Studies this term

This Term in Social Studies we learn't many things
We Learn't about Child slavery E.g Iqbal Masih, Harriet Tubman And many more.

We got read a book by our Social Studies teacher the book was about a child slave named Iqbal Masih
Image result for iqbal masih

He got moved between masters because he was always finding ways to escape and they had enough of him. Iqbal ended up in a Carpet factory in Pakistan In a town called Muridke, Iqbal decided to join an organisation to save child slaves. Iqbal was assassinated at the age of 12 on the 16th of April 1995.

We also did Work about Harriet Tubman.

Harriet Tubman was born into slavery she escaped and married a man that wasn't as slave Harriet Tubman built an underground railroad to help slaves escape from the conditions they we're in. Harriet Tubman died in 1913 from Pneumonia.

Digital Technology App

Fearing the Unknown the best choice game ever!.

Introduction
Hi it's Selena in Digital Technology we were put into groups to create a app/game. My group and I decided that we would create a game. We used coggle to plan out what our game would be about and what would be in the game.

Reflection
I really like this learning area in digital technology we get to work together as a group to design and create a game of our choice. We used this app called Coggle to write down our ideas coggle had a really good and easy layout that anyone could use, You can see all our ideas and how the coggle will look on the photo I added. We decided to make our game a survival game, our ideas changed a bit throughout the process of designing the game but there are still some original ideas that we had. My group thought about what we would add to the game and we are happy about all the ideas we've had. My group worked really well together we shared ideas and helped each other if we needed help I'm really happy with the group I am in and I can't wait to see how our game turns out.

Sources

We used Padlet to start writing all our ideas down.
We also used Coggle to write down our ideas and make a plan of what the game is going to be about.

QUESTIONS!!!

Is there any questions?

Have you ever used Coggle or Padlet?
If so what'd you think about it?
Do you think you'll want to design and create a game now?

Leave a comment down below and i'll get back to you!!.

Science

Aim:
To find a valid method Online and successfully Extract DNA from a banana

Equipment
Materials     banana graphic
  • 1/2 peeled ripe banana (you can also use strawberries or other fruit)
  • 1/2 cup hot water
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp liquid dishwashing soap
  • resealable zip-top bag (quart size)
  • very cold rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol) placed in freezer ahead of time
  • coffee filter
  • narrow glass
  • wooden stirrer

Method

Extracting DNA in 10 Easy Steps

  1. Mush the banana in the resealable bag for about a minute until all the lumps are gone and it almost looks like pudding.
  2. Fill a cup with the hot water and salt.
  3. Pour the saltwater mix into the bag. Close the bag and very gently squeeze and move the saltwater and banana mush together. Do this for 30 to 45 seconds.
  4. Add the dishwashing soap into the bag and gently mix the contents. Try to avoid making too much foam.
  5. Place the coffee filter in a clear glass cup, securing the top of the filter around the lip of the cup.
  6. Pour the mix into the filter and let it sit until all of the liquid drips down into the cup.
  7. Remove and discard the used coffee filter.
  8. Tilt the glass and slowly add cold alcohol down the side of the cup. You want the alcohol to form a layer on top of the banana mix, staying separated, so be careful not to pour it too fast. Make a layer of alcohol that is 2.5-5cm (1-2in) thick.
  9. After the alcohol layer is set up, wait for eight minutes. You may see some bubbles and cloudy material moving around in the alcohol. This is the DNA pieces clumping together.
  10. Use the wooden stirrer to start poking the cloudy stuff in the alcohol layer. Spin the stirrer it in place to st art gathering the cloudy stuff. When you are done, take a closer look at the stuff on the stirrer. You are looking at DNA!

RESULT:Our result was successful we found the DNA of a banana

Introduction
In Digital We have been learning about Ergonomics
For this project I decided to use Canva
Here is my Infographic of Ergonomics!.

Infographic

Help
I used Canva for my Infographic I found it really easy to use when I knew how to work it I also found a way to get Pro on the Icons all you have to do is click on pro and it will come up with a free trial, instead of doing the trial click the Exit, after that click on the Pro again and you should have it There is some Icons that cost US dollars you should also be able to get them but I think its only after you get Pro.

The first website was created by Toya Turner I read the information and changed things into my own words it was published in March 5th 2015.

The second Website was created by Scott Wolowich unfortunately it has no other information about when it came out.

The third website was created by Eloisa Latorre, This Article was posted on July 3rd 2017.

The fourth site I looked at unfortunately has no information about who created the site or when it was published. Maybe you could see if there is a date and comment down below if there is,I may have missed.

The 5th site I looked at was by a Man called Ken Marshall It was created on the 8th of July 2013.
And it carry's on.

My Reflection

Doing an Infographic about Ergonomics helped me learn about Ergonomics, I learnt that sitting non-correctly at your computer can lead to many pains in your body like: Neck pain, Back pain, Shoulder pain and many many more. I really like how Canva works it's pretty easy to understand. I think its a good thing i'm going to post this on my blog so you can make sure your sitting posture is correct it will make a huge difference if you sit correctly.

Thank you for reading my blog Leave your questions and Comments in the comment section so I can look at them and reply.

Have you used Canva Before? How did you like it?.
Have you learnt anything new?
